I'm installing a new hard-drive and a new operating system...?

can i just remove the existing hard-drive replace it with the new and install the new oper. system or do i need to format or partition the new hard-drive?

you can keep the old one, however go in BIOS and choose the new hard disk to boot first in the boot sequence, that will make the computer boot form the new hard disk.



The save bios, put windows cd in drive, restart the computer, select new install, then you can create partitions in the new HD, and install windows in one of them

You'll need to format it using the appropriate filesystem for the OS you plan to install.
if youre just taking out the old HD and not putting it back in, you just put the new one in and pop the OS disk into your disk drive
you need to partition the new hard drive, don't worry about the last one, just chuck it and put the disk in and it should be fine.
