I cant get my modem to connect the Internet; , when i go to connect it said no response,or cant loca

i have just switch i dont know if that has any thing to do with it.. ihave dsl(att) and its a 98 compacq presario.. alot of times it(oper)will say wrong port or my modem is being use by other networks,and that i should close out other programs but i do and iam still getting the erro above^or i need to plug my modem in please help

If you're using DSL, the "modem" isn't really seen by the PC as a modem like with dialup. You should be connected to the DSL Modem by either a USB cable or an Ethernet cable.



The software provided by ATT for connectivity should do the "dialing" for you. But if you're getting messages about 'wrong port' you might be misunderstanding how to set up the connection.



Make sure that the phone line is plugged into the DSL Modem, and that you are plugged in from the PC to the Modem with either USB or Ethernet, then try running the Setup CD again.



If you have an old "shortcut to dialup connection" or something that you're clicking, you don't want to use that anymore.



If all else fails, don't forget that phone support is avaialble directly from ATT! They'll help you with the configuration if you just call them up.
